One of the most famous structures is the Eye of the Sun, a large stone structure made up of three different stratified layers - Organ Rock Shale, de Chelly Sandstone, Moenkopi Formation and finally Shinarump Conglomerate. Much like the other national parks of the area, Monument Valley National Park is firered in color and its buttes are near perfectly stratified giving a glimpse into the geology of the area. Though it is only about 50 square miles, the valley is often what people think of when they picture the American West. It has been featured in several different forms of media ever since the ‘30s.
